Lingering moisture and instability associated with a tropical wave are across the Windward Islands. In addition, an upper level trough is lending support to the instability at lower levels. For that, cumulonimbus clouds have been observed across the island chain and possible isolated thunderstorms are likely tonight.
The instability has caused the pressure gradient to weaken, resulting in calm winds. Model guidance is indicating a drying out of the atmosphere over the weekend and mostly fair conditions are likely. However, day time heating and the light wind regime may result in some localized convective activity in the evening. On Monday evening, a surface to low level trough will be affecting the islands generating some showers.
Meanwhile, as of 2 o’clock this afternoon, a broad area of low pressure southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands has 10% chance of cyclone formation over the next couple of days. It is moving westward. The Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Meteorological Services will monitor the formation of this disturbance.
Calm winds are forecast to eventually become south-easterly at 5km/h to 25km/h. Sea conditions are forecast to be slight (0.5m-1.0m) this evening with moderate conditions returning to the east coast on Saturday. No significant haze intrusion is anticipated within this forecast period.
