Hurricane Sam is maintaining a northwestward track across the Atlantic. While the system inches closer to the region, it is expected to pass well north of our islands later this week. Meanwhile, a favourable upper level environment and the instability associated with the passage of Hurricane Sam increases the likelihood of occasional scattered showers; some of which may be moderate/heavy at times accompanied by thunderstorm activity across SVG during the next few days. Residents and motorists should remain alert as the hurricane/wet season continues as ‘flare ups’ which are sudden downpours are likely to occur.
Wind speeds will continue to be light and gentle (10-20km/h), becoming calm on occasions, and predominantly east south easterly (ESE). Seas will be slight to moderate in open water, with swells peaking near 0.5m on the western coasts and up to 1.5m on the eastern coasts. In addition, there will be no significant haze intrusion during this forecast period.
