A WEATHER INFORMATION STATEMENT for St. Vincent and the Grenadines issued at 6:00 p.m Friday, 20th September, 2019

A strong tropical wave with an accompanying area of low pressure along the wave axis near 10°N 48°W, has some potential for further development as the system approaches the Southern Windward Islands late Saturday/early Sunday.

Regardless of development, brisk surface winds of 45 to 55km/h or 28 to 34 mph (25 to 30 kt) with higher gusts and pockets of moderate to heavy showers with rainfall accumulations of 100 to 150mm (4 to 6 inches) are possible during the passage of this system.

In addition, deterioration in sea-conditions is also expected; with east-southeasterly swells of 3.0 to 4.5m (10 to 15ft) are likely. Thus, a High-Surf Advisory and Small-Craft Warning will be in effect from 6:00 pm tomorrow, Saturday 21st September until 12:00 noon Monday 23rd September, 2019.

A High-Surf Advisory is issued when breaking wave action poses a threat to life and property within the surf zone.

A Small-Craft Warning means in this case, that wind-speeds of 45 to 55km/h (25 to 30 kt) and /or seas greater than 3m (10ft) will be affecting the marine area.

The St Vincent and the Grenadines Meteorological Service will continue to monitor this strong tropical wave and issue further updates as conditions warrant.
