A HIGH SURF ADVISORY AND SMALL CRAFT WARNING IS IN EFFECT FOR ST. VINCENT & THE GRENADINES

A strong high pressure system centered over the central North Atlantic has been generating easterly to east north-easterly surface winds of 20 – 25 knots (37 to 46 km/h), and easterly to east north-easterly swells of 2.0 -2.5 meters (7ft – 8ft) over the past 12 hours.
A further deterioration in these conditions is expected later tonight through to Wednesday afternoon, as swells are expected to peak near 3.5m (11ft) and wind speeds increasing to 25 - 30 knots (46 to 56 km/h).
As a result, a HIGH-SURF ADVISORY AND SMALL-CRAFT WARNING will be in effect for St. Vincent and the Grenadines from 6 pm today Monday 16th December until 12 noon Wednesday 18th December, 2019.
Large waves and dangerous rip-currents will create unsafe conditions for small-craft operators, particularly on the eastern, northern-eastern and south-eastern coastlines. These conditions may become even more adverse at times of high tide. Sea-bathers are also advised to stay out of the water.
High tides are forecast on the following days: Monday – 11:09 pm
Tuesday – 9:10 am and 11:36 pm
Wednesday – 10:03 am
A Small-Craft Warning means in this case that winds of 25 – 30 knots or greater and seas equal to or greater than 3 meters (10ft) are forecast to affect the marine area.
A High-Surf Advisory is issued when breaking wave action poses a threat to life and property within the surf zone.
This high surf advisory and small craft warning may be extended if conditions warrant.
