Advisory # 5 Tropical Storm Gonzalo
Issued: 9:00 p.m. Friday, 24th July, 2020.

At 8:00 p.m. Tropical Storm Gonzalo was centered near 10.0 North 56.3 West or about 340 miles (550 km) east of the Southern Windward Islands. “Gonzalo” is moving towards the west near 18 mph (30 km/h) with maximum sustained winds near 40 mph (65 km/h) with higher gust. The minimum central pressure is 1008 mb. The latest report from a Hurricane Hunter Aircraft which investigated Tropical Storm Gonzalo found it to be poorly organized with the forecast track further south than previously predicted. While this updated projection indicates that storm-force winds are not expected across mainland Saint Vincent, the southern Grenadines Islands of Canouan, Mayreau, Palm Island, Petit St. Vincent and Union Island remain under threat.


A Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect for Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG)

Possible impacts:
-Tonight, moderate to heavy showers, gusty winds near showers and scattered thunderstorms will spread across Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. Residents and motorist in areas prone to flooding and landslides or near rivers and streams should remain alert. These conditions will continue tomorrow morning, with further deterioration by late Saturday with an increase in moderate to heavy showers, thunderstorms and near storm force winds of 25 mph –40 mph (40km/h - 64km/h) mainly across the Southern Grenadines.
-Rainfall accumulations of 75 – 100 millimeters (3 - 4 inches) with higher amounts in mountainous area are possible through Sunday.
-Presently, moderate sea conditions with swells peaking to 1.5m on the eastern coasts and 2.5m on the western coasts are expected. Small craft operators and sea bathers are advised to exercise caution.


A high surf advisory and small craft warning will be in effect from 6:00am tomorrow, 25th July, due to swells peaking near 4.0 meters (13 feet).

The Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Meteorological Services will continue to monitor the progress of Tropical Storm Gonzalo and provide updates as necessary.
