The Atlantic High Pressure system is expected to build across the region today. Slightly hazy conditions with fresh breeze and brief isolated showers can be expected this afternoon and overnight. Few shallow showers moving along the wind flow could reach our islands on Tuesday. Meanwhile, a surface low pressure area across the north Central Atlantic should shift further northwards by Wednesday
. This low pressure area could induce instability southward, to support an easterly wave crossing the Leeward Islands late Wednesday/early Thursday.
Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) activity is expected to shift northward during Thursday and a few scattered showers are possible ahead of the next approaching tropical wave late Thursday into Friday.
Fresh easterly breeze continue this afternoon, becoming east north-easterly by Tuesday afternoon. By Wednesday afternoon, a slight decrease to moderate breeze should be noticeable.
Mariners can expect slight to moderate seas in open waters with swells on west and east coasts returning to 1.0m and 2.0m overnight. Slight decrease (0.6m -1.5m) is possible again late Wednesday.
Hazy conditions due to dust concentrations could peak this afternoon into tonight, with PM2.5 levels reaching near 44 µg/m3 and PM10 levels reaching near 69µg/m3 before decreasing during Tuesday. Mariners and persons with respiratory issues should be aware. (See image at 11am compliments CIMMS) Slight haze with patches of dust concentration should wane by Thursday evening.
