The Atlantic High Pressure System is dominant across the region with brisk winds bringing occasional shallow cloud patches and showers. A ‘cut-off Low’ in the Eastern Atlantic is expected to linger, inducing a shearline/trough feature across the Central Windward Islands tomorrow. There is a good chance that this shearline could result in moisture converging within the lower levels (below 650mb) with
increased cloudiness and dip in temperatures across St.Vincent and the Grenadines from late Saturday. Models indicate rainfall accumulations of near 25mm are possible with occasional showers from Saturday night/early Sunday to early Monday, as lower level troughs propagate from the ‘cut-off Low’ in the Eastern Atlantic.
Expect moderate to fresh (25 - 40km/h) north-easterly trades to gradually decrease by Saturday afternoon to moderate (20-30km/h) breeze with the presence of an induced shearline/trough feature. Wind direction should veer to east south-easterly during Sunday bringing some moisture across the islands. Wind speeds should be backing to north-easterly and increasing again late Sunday.
Moderate sea swells range 1.5 – 2.5m across St. Vincent and the Grenadines; originating from north north-east …Small craft-operators and sea bathers should continue to exercise caution for above normal swells… wave heights would tend to fall during Saturday as wind speeds decrease, but could be rising with return of brisk winds on Sunday and maintained by the ‘cut-off low’ churning in the Eastern Atlantic. Barometric readings should be fluctuating over the weekend, between 1012 - 1017mb as the ‘cut-off low’ drifts southward in the eastern Atlantic.
Barometric readings should start rising with the low filing by middle of next week. No significant dust concentrations are expected across our area over the next few days....JMCD
