A low-level trough with weak instability is approaching the islands and scattered showers can be expected tonight into Sunday. The next tropical wave should be approaching the islands on Monday, with showers increasing early morning Tuesday and possibly accompanied by strong winds (30 - 50km/h with occasional higher gusts), periods of rain, and isolated thunderstorms. A patch of Saharan dust is moving along with this tropical wave which could limit showers and reduce visibility across our islands (SVG). The situation would be monitored,

as current models indicate significant heavy rainfall accumulations possible across the Trinidad area

Moderate (20 - 30 km/h) easterly breeze should continue across the islands. Wind directions at the surface backing to east north-east as the trough approaches then veer south-easterly late Sunday. Easterly fresh breeze should indicate the approach of the tropical wave during Monday and gusty conditions are possible, especially early Tuesday.

Fair visibility is across our islands this weekend, as the dust concentration has thinned to a veil, but moderate haze could return late Monday and thicken during Tuesday, with PM2.5 levels peaking near 23 µg/m3 and PM10 levels peaking near 37 µg/m3 by evening.

Slight to moderate sea conditions across our islands, with easterly swells ranging 1.0 – 2.0m on west and east coasts. Wave heights should increase Tuesday, to range 1.2 – 1.8 on the west coasts and 1.8 to 2.5m on the east coast as the tropical wave crosses the area…Small craft operators and sea bathers should exercise caution for above normal swells, gusty winds and reduced visibility in haze.
