Moderate showers and isolated thunderstorms were experienced over mainland St. Vincent and the northern Grenadines earlier today as a line of clouds associated with a tropical wave moved across the Central Windwards. Similar weather conditions are anticipated tonight into tomorrow as the wave’s axis moves west of the islands. Residents and motorists in areas prone to flooding and land-slides, or near rivers and streams should be alert. A temporary reduction in haze concentration may be noticeable on occasions on Saturday and can be alluded to showers. A thick plume of Saharan dust is forecast for Sunday, reducing the visibility across the islands. Small-craft operators should therefore exercise caution for reduced visibility whereas persons with respiratory and allergy concerns should be aware that air quality may be reduced and take necessary precautions. Warm and fair to partly cloudy conditions are expected as the new week unfolds.
Moderate to occasionally fresh (20km/h – 40km/h) east to east north easterly(E-ENE) trades will move across the islands within the next 12 hours, becoming east south easterly(ESE) on Saturday morning. A return to east north easterly flow is expected late Sunday and should continue until the end of the forecast period. Slight to moderate sea conditions, with swells peaking to 1.2m on the western coasts and around 2.0m on the eastern coasts are anticipated over the next 72 hours.
