A few scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are likely across St.Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) tonight into early Friday as a tropical wave crosses the islands ahead of and feeding into Tropical Storm Gonzalo. Slight hazy conditions are also expected Friday. Showers and thunderstorms could increase across SVG during Friday and continue Saturday, as ‘Gonzalo’ crosses the Southern Windward Islands. A hurricane watch remains in effect for SVG and persons in areas prone to flash-flooding and land-slides or near rivers and streams should be alert as ‘Gonzalo’ could bring significant rainfall accumulations across SVG, before moving away during Sunday.
Gentle to moderate (~10 - 25 km/h) easterly breeze are expected tonight
, increasing to fresh (up to 40 km/h) by early Friday and turning east north-easterly. Occasional gusty conditions are likely late Friday and during Saturday, with northerly winds by afternoon. Varying directions with storm/hurricane force winds can be expected by evening, before decreasing to gentle south-easterly winds late Sunday as ‘Gonzalo’ moves away from the islands.
Slight to moderate sea-conditions are across our islands, with east north-easterly sea-swells near 1.0 m on western coasts and up to 1.8 m on eastern coasts. Rise in swell heights are expected during Friday…Small craft operators and sea-bathers should take action as hurricane conditions can be expected; with life-threatening sea-swells, nearing 2.5 m on western coasts and near 4.0 m on eastern coasts of our islands by late Saturday… Swell heights are expected to fall during Sunday, becoming slight o moderate (1.0 - 1.5 m) by evening.
