At 5 pm, The centre of Tropical Storm Laura was located near 17.1N, 61.2W or 40 miles(65 km) east of Antigua. Instability associated with the system could influence the weather pattern across SVG over the next 24 hours. A flash flood watch is in effect until 12 noon tomorrow as "Laura" has the potential to generate moderate to heavy showers in significant amounts and thunderstorm activity across Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. In addition, this system will generate wind speeds between 12 - 28 mph (20 - 45km/h) with higher gusts near showers. Residents and motorists in areas prone to flooding and landslides or near rivers and streams should exercise caution. Models suggest a few early morning showers are likely across Sunday and Monday as weak weak shearlines develop.
Occasionally strong (~45km/h) south easterly trades will move across the islands tonight, becoming moderate/fresh(~20-30km/h) across Saturday and Sunday. An east north easterly flow should begin on Sunday with winds decreasing(~10-20km/h) on Monday becoming east to east south easterly. Consequently, with this increase in wind speeds tonight, sea conditions will deteriorate with swells peaking at 2.5m to 1.5m. As Sunday progresses, the wind speeds will gradually decrease and slight to moderate sea conditions (1.0m-1.5m) will return.
No significant haze intrusion is anticipated within the forecast period.
