72 hours weather outlook
A tropical wave will continue to affect the islands tonight. From 6a.m to 6.p.m today, Saturday 19th, 8mm of rainfall was recorded at the Argyle International Airport. Scattered moderate to heavy showers with a slight chance of thunderstorm activity are forecast as the night continues into early Sunday morning. Model guidance is indicating approximately 20mm of rainfall during the next 24 hours period, with higher amounts possible in mountainous areas. Take note that the soils are already saturated, and some areas are in a state of vulnerability. Therefore, residents and motorists in areas prone to flooding and near rivers and streams are asked to exercise caution.
Partly cloudy skies and a few scattered showers are forecast from Sunday afternoon into Monday. Moisture ahead of another tropical wave will increase cloud cover and generate a few scattered showers as Monday progresses. The tropical wave will begin to affect the islands around Tuesday. Deep convection (showers and thunderstorms) with 50mm of rainfall accumulation is possible by Tuesday night. The Meteorological Services will continue to monitor the progress of this wave.
A moderate easterly wind flow, backing to east north east (ENE) on occasions will move across the islands. Winds are likely to become gusty near showers during the passage of the wave Monday night/Tuesday. Seas will remain slight to moderate in open waters with swells peaking at 1.0m on the western coasts and 2.0m on the eastern coasts.
In addition, a thin layer of Saharan dust will be across the islands during the next 72 hours period.
