Gentle wind speeds would continue to promote warm conditions across St. Vincent & the Grenadines during this(Wednesday) afternoon allowing for occasional localised showers. Residents and motorists in areas prone to flooding and landslides or near rivers and streams should exercise caution. On Thursday, a mixture of sunshine, fair to occasionally cloudy skies and a few isolated showers can be expected before a tropical wave draws closer to the islands during nightfall. This wave is expected to bring occasional moderate showers to SVG with possible thunderstorm activity. Showers could linger into Saturday as instability trails the aforementioned wave.
Meanwhile, Tropical Depression #12 has strengthened into Tropical Storm Larry at 2am this morning(Wednesday) over the eastern Tropical Atlantic. Tropical Storm Larry is centered near 12.3N 24.8W. This storm does not pose any threat to SVG and is expected to maintain a path that passes well north of our islands. Nevertheless, the SVG Met Service will monitor the progress of this system.
Gentle (< 20 km/h) east north easterly trades would cross the islands for most of the afternoon, gradually increasing tonight and becoming fresh(20-30km/h) along Thursday. A change(east south easterly) in wind direction is likely around mid Friday, while a further increase(25-35km/h) in speed is expected on Saturday.
Seas are currently smooth on western coasts peaking near 0.2 m and slight on eastern coasts ranging between 0.8m to 1.0m. From Thursday night, seas may become moderate, peaking up to 1.0m on western coasts and near 1.5m on eastern coasts. A film of Saharan dust is anticipated ahead of the tropical wave on Friday.
