Cloudy skies, pockets of moderate showers and possible isolated thunderstorms are anticipated along this afternoon, intensifying tonight as a tropical wave affects our islands. Residents and motorists in areas prone to flooding and landslides and near rivers and streams should remain alert. These conditions are expected to persist along Wednesday as trailing instability lingers. Early morning showers are also likely on Thursday, however some marginal improvement remains a possibility as the day progresses, so a mixture of sunshine and showers are forecast.
On Friday the ITCZ(Inter Tropical Convergence Zone - where north and south east trade winds meet) is expected to migrate northward and bring unsettled weather conditions to our islands. The SVG Meteorological Services will continue to closely monitor this feature and provide the necessary updates.
Light and gentle(less than 20km/h) east north easterly trades with gusts near showers will cross the islands this afternoon, increasing to fresh(near 35km/h) from tonight. The wind direction would become east south easterly from Wednesday. Seas are currently slight to moderate in open water with swells peaking near 1.0m o western coasts and near 1.8m on eastern coasts and rising. Seas could become generally moderate from tonight, therefore, small craft operators and sea bathers should exercise caution for above normal sea swells and occasional gusty winds. Varying concentrations of Saharan dust haze will cross the islands from Wednesday.
