Instability across our islands is due to a deep low north-east of the island chain with an induced trough. Along with the gentle winds being experienced across our area, instability could result in some localized scattered showers this afternoon. Meanwhile, dust concentrations could thicken significantly (160-320 ug/m*3) this afternoon, reducing visibility and air quality.
As the low drifts eastward in the Atlantic Ocean, a surface to low level shearline is expected to extend across the Windward Islands late Thursday into the weekend. Instability is expected to linger across the islands Friday and Saturday with shower activity.
South-easterly gentle to moderate (12-25 km/h) breeze this afternoon should continue. A backing to east –northeasterly by Friday evening is expected, followed by a decrease to light winds by late Saturday.
Mean sea-level pressure (1012-1014 mb) could rise briefly on Thursday to 1014-1016 mb falling again late Friday into Saturday. Slight to moderate sea conditions are expected with wave heights 1.0 m to 2.0m in open water. Mariners, small craft operators and sea bathers should be aware, northerly swells can be expected by Thursday afternoon with wave heights increasing on west up to 1.8 m (moderate) and up to 2.5m (moderate to rough) on east coasts. Swell conditions should return to normal by late Saturday.
