High-Wind ADVISORY and Small-Craft WARNING for ST.VINCENT AND THE GRENADINES
Issued at 12:00 noon Friday 28th December, 2018
A strengthening Western Atlantic High Pressure System is generating fresh to strong surface winds and above-normal north-easterly to easterly sea- swells across the Eastern Caribbean region. Strong winds with wind-speeds 25 to 33 knots (47 to 61 km/h) with higher gusts and rough seas and sea swells 3.0 to 3.5 metres (10 to 13 feet) should be affecting St.Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) overnight-Friday and persist until late Sunday…Thus, a High-Wind Advisory and Small-craft Warning will be in effect for Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and its coastal waters from 6:00 p.m, Friday, 28th December, 2018 until 12:00 noon Monday 31st December, 2018.
The High-Wind Advisory is issued when sustained winds of 25 to 33knots (47 to 61km/h), not associated with a tropical cyclone are forecast to affect the land area. Persons in exposed (especially Windward) areas should be alert; as winds of this magnitude can cause loose objects to become airborne, items such as outdoor furniture, tents, and construction material may become dislodged or topple, large branches could be set in motion/bend, vulnerable plants/trees may fall and over-head wires may become disconnected.
The Small-Craft Warning means that seas equal to or greater than 3m (10ft) and/or mean wind-speeds of 25 to 33 knots (47 to 61km/h) will affect our marine area. Mariners and Small-craft operators across SVG may risk damage to craft.
REQUIRED ACTIONS...Residents are urged to be vigilant and secure all loose objects. Small-craft operators can expect long waves and airborne sea-spray in open water and large breaking waves and rip tides near beaches... Sea bathers are advised to stay out of the water during the next few days.
Additionally, High-tide times are expected near 11:58pm Friday
11:04am Saturday
12:40am and 12:05pm Sunday
01:22am Monday
The High-Wind Advisory and Small-Craft Warning will remain in effect for St.Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) until 12:00noon Monday 31st December 2018.
