72 Hours Outlook

Weather Outlook - 5th October 2020 (6pm)

Cloudy to overcast skies with moderate to heavy showers, periods of rain and isolated thunderstorms are anticipated across St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) tonight into tomorrow as favourable upper level conditions and adequate moisture continue to influence the weather pattern.

Today, there were reports of land slippage, damage to property, and rivers overflowing their banks in various communities of mainland St. Vincent. Due to the saturated nature of soils from recent rainfall events, flash-flooding and similar aforementioned activity are likely to occur. In addition, accumulations of 50 mm (approximately 2 inches) with isolated higher amounts in mountainous areas are possible during the next 18 hours.

Therefore, the flash-flood warning that is already in effect for SVG has been extended until 12 noon Tuesday October 6th 2020. Residents and motorists in areas  prone  to  flooding  and landslides  or  near  rivers  and  streams  should  continue to be vigilant and take  the  necessary precautionary measures to protect life and property. There may be some temporary improvement to our weather conditions on Wednesday as unfavourable upper level conditions are forecast. On Thursday afternoon, the potential for showers and thunderstorm activity increases again.
