A thick plume of Saharan dust is affecting the island chain, caught in the High Pressure clockwise circulation. This plume could significantly reduce visibility and air quality into the weekend. Although the High Pressure System should dominate, sufficient lower level moisture could result in isolated showers by evening/tonight. see image at 11:00am compliments CIMMS
A lower level trough area with a 1010mb low pressure , associated with ITCZ activity is being monitored just south-east of the island chain which could degenerate to open wave, resulting in shearlines reaching island chain with scattered showers Saturday into Sunday.
Expect east north-easterly fresh breeze this afternoon, with speeds reduced during Friday. Barometric Pressure readings are ranging 1013mb - 1015mb with the Atlantic High Pressure System dominant across the islands.
Sea swells are originating from the east and falling, to 1.0 - 2.0m on across SVG by Friday afternoon.
Visibility and air quality is significantly reduced due to Saharan dust haze. Small craft operators and persons with respiratory concerns should be aware, but some thinning of concentration is expected overnight to slight haze. Fairly good visibility should return to our horizon by Saturday afternoon.
