72 Hours Outlook

Weather Outlook 6 pm 4th November 2017

Sufficient low-mid level moisture and support at the mid-levels resulted in thunderstorm activity across our islands this afternoon. The trough system will continue to affect our islands tonight into tomorrow Sunday. Cloudy skies with periods of rain, scattered showers and possible thunderstorms can be expected, as south-easterly lower level wind flow brings moisture from equatorial regions. By Monday, ridging associated with a building Atlantic High Pressure at mid levels, could position the island chain on the south-western edge.  Hence, lower level convergence and a possible shearline feature in the upper levels could result in increased instability across our area continuing into Tuesday.

Gentle to moderate breeze tonight should increase to moderate by early Sunday. Winds should be backing to east-northeasterly by Monday night, becoming moderate to fresh breeze Tuesday and veering to south-easterly by evening.

Flat to slight (0 – 1.2m) seas on the west coasts tonight should rise to slight by early Sunday, while slight to moderate (0.6m - 1.5m) on the east coasts should rise to moderate by Monday evening.

Varying intensity of slight haze on the horizon due to dust concentrations (20 – 40 ug/m**3), should clear by Tuesday.

Special feature: An elongated low pressure area about 900 miles east-southeast of Bermuda continues to produce disorganized showers and thunderstorms. This low has a 30% chance to develop tropical or subtropical characteristics as it moves to the north-northeast over the central Atlantic through this weekend into the middle of next week.
