72 Hours Outlook

Weather Outlook 6 pm 7th November 2017

Weak unstable conditions across our area could result in scattered showers tonight, with chances increasing showers by Wednesday afternoon.  Atlantic High Pressure System is just north of the island chain, with our islands on the southern edge.  Weak lower level convergence around the High Pressure with east- south easterly flow should change late Wednesday with the approach of a trough system Thursday lingering into Friday.

At mid levels, moisture is marginal with upper levels expecting to increase significantly Wednesday.  Models also indicate few short-wave troughs possible in the upper levels Wednesday, with orientation to occasionally enhance instability across our islands. Residents and motorists should BE ON THE ALERT and take precaution to safeguard life and property. Watches/warnings may be issued on short notice.

Moderate east-southeasterly breeze tonight could become occasionally fresh by early morning.  Late Wednesday, east northeasterly flow should announce the approach of the next trough.

Slight to moderate (1.0m – 1.8m) seas across SVG can be expected for the next few days. Slight (20 – 40 ug/m**3) dust concentrations may increase (40 – 80 ug/m**3) overnight decreasing again late Wednesday and possibly clearing by Friday.

Special feature: At 5pm Tropical Storm Rina was near latitude 33.8 North, longitude 48.9 West moving toward the north near 18 mph (30 km/h).  A turn toward the north-northeast is expected late tomorrow, followed by a rapid northeast motion on Thursday. Maximum sustained winds are near 45 mph (75 km/h) with higher gusts. Some strengthening is possible through Wednesday before weakening on Thursday.
